Selecting Preschool Furniture

There are several things you will need to take into consideration when selecting preschool furniture. These are: what pieces do you need, what quality is available, what choices are there and am I getting the best price?
What furniture pieces do you need to set up your preschool? Take a look at each of your preschool learning centers and see if you have the minimum. In dramatic play a kitchen with stove top, refrigerator, microwave and sink is essential. A table for playing on, setting up, and pretending on and chairs to go with it is a must. Add on shelving, puppet stage, post office, mirror and laundry center if you have the space and budget. Put a quiet reading area next to your dramatic play area. Have a rug that defines the area with library shelves for books and soft seating for relaxing.
The art center needs easels and drying racks for all those little art projects. The multimedia center needs a computer(s) and screen.
I couldn't operate a preschool without a discovery table, sometimes called a sand and water table or science table. Outdoors you will need riding equipment, climbing equipment, slides and swings. Add road signs, picnic tables, awnings and basketball hoops if you have the space and budget for it. Indoors, for gross motor play, have an area with mats, climbing equipment and slides. Have riding equipment that you keep indoors.
A good carpet or mat is irreplaceable for circle time and lesson time. You will need good tables and chairs for desk work, snack and fine motor activities. Keep everything organized with shelving and bins. Each child needs a locker or cubby to store their coats, boots, backpacks, art work and notes to take home.
Once you have a good idea of the preschool furniture you need or would like to add, ask yourself, "what quality can I afford?" Some companies give you a good, better or best quality. Some just give a wide range of prices at top quality. It is best to get top quality. In the long run you will save money because it will last longer. You will not be reordering because you bought the cheapest thing you could find and it fell apart.
Choose a company with a wide range of choices. Measure the space that you have available. Look through the catalog. What is available to fit your need and your space and budget? A good company will have more than one choice.
A good company will stand behind what they sell. There should be a guarantee. Check out the guarantee and make sure that it is in writing, not just something you were told over the phone.
Of course, the bottom line is the prices. Go with the best for the least price. Find a company that has a lowest price guaranteed. They will match the lowest price you can find. Be careful about shipping prices. They have to charge, but is it a reasonable price to ship? Good quality preschool furniture is wise investment. You won't go wrong with the best. Find the best at the best price.
