The airport chair, like many staples we see in waiting rooms around the world, are something the majority of us take for granted. We do not really see the airport chair, we simply know that it is there, and take for granted that it will be available when we need it to be.
Try to picture in your mind the waiting area at your local airport. Now try to envision the airport chair that is in that waiting room. You know that an airport chair is there because you have been there and sat on one of these items while waiting to board your flight, but chances are you cannot even recall what color the seats are. Do not feel embarrassed because you cannot remember this fact, because the majority of us cannot remember it. There are many other things that we take for granted as well.
What color are the chairs in your doctor's examination rooms? You have been in these rooms countless times, and you have sat in these seats, but have you ever really looked at them? More than likely you have not ever really looked closely at the seats provided in the examination rooms or the ones provided in the waiting area.
When you walk into your local postal office there is a good chance that there are flowers planted on either side of the walkway leading up to the door. You have seen these flowers in bloom and you know what they are, but can you name them right now? Can you see the color of the floor tile inside the post office?
All of these things are things we see so often that we actually stop seeing them. We know they are there and we know what they are, so our mind does not register them every time we pass them. If we had to we can make our minds focus on the items and give them names and descriptions, but we will literally have to concentrate to perform this action.
There is a lot of danger involved in this type of familiarity. When you are driving home do you notice every house and sign along your way? If you travel the exact same path each time you leave and return then it is likely that your mind does not really see everything that is should see. Most accidents happen within a twenty mile radius from our homes because of this absent minded familiarity. We let down our guards and are less cautious when driving this route.
It has been suggested by experts that you do not travel the same route home every day. Change things up so you can keep your mind fresh and focus on everything around you. When you walk into the airport you are now likely to look at the seating and the way it is arranged. You will develop a habit of actually looking at the items surrounding you instead of taking them for granted.
The airport chair is one of the best examples of things we take for granted. We know that there will be an airport chair for us to sit in so we do not really give any thought to the seats or what they look like.
