Weight Limits of an Airport Chair

Many people do not realize that an airport chair has weight limits. Boats and water vessels have weight limits. Airplanes have weight limits. Buses and cars also have weight limits. When you buy a trailer you are told the amount of weight you can haul on the trailer. Knowing the limitations of your equipment can help you to avoid accidents and avoiding damaging the item.
A typical airport chair is built to hold about two hundred and fifty pounds. That means two hundred and fifty pounds of weight that is not moving. The width of the seat is generally made too narrow for an individual who exceeds the two hundred and fifty pound limit.
When two people get into the same airport chair their weight may be low enough that the framing is supposed to handle them, but the movement that two people do when sitting together in a seat causes stresses to the joints of the chair and often can cause the seat to break.
Children do not normally weigh as much as two hundred and fifty pounds. When you take one child that weighs around fifty pounds and you allow them to get into a seat and start to jump, they exert more stress than their body weight implies. This extra stress can cause the bolts and screws that are holding the components of the airport chair together to become loose. Once loosened these bolts and screws can tear free and the piece of furniture will no longer be suitable for sitting in.
Some people need a chair that will hold more than two hundred and fifty pounds. Most terminals and waiting areas have at least one seat that is built to withstand the weight of larger individuals. Just because these items are designed to hold larger amounts of weight does not meant that they can withstand the punishment of children jumping in them or couples sitting in them without being damaged.
The seats of the furniture pieces designed for heavier people will be wider than the normal seats of the other chairs in the room are. Most people realize which seats will hold their additional weight without you telling them or labeling the chair as being heavy duty.
The wide seats are only a portion of what makes the piece of furniture capable of handling more weight than their smaller counterparts do. The furniture designed for heavier people will also have legs and frames that are built with materials that are thicker and more solid.
The boards and braces used in furniture designed for heavier people will be thicker and more capable of supporting the additional stress. Even the fabric covering that is used on the item will likely be different from the ones on the furniture made for average sized individuals.
Many times furniture designers remember to make some items larger so that heavier people can sit, but they forget to make some furniture shorter so people who are vertically challenged can sit comfortably.
An airport chair is designed for people who weigh less than two hundred and fifty pounds. An airport chair built for larger people will have sturdier legs and frames.
